Dear Happy Hollow Families,
After break, it was wonderful to return to our school routine this week and to be back together with our students. They transitioned back in such a respectful and positive manner, and quickly got right back into the swing of things.
As we continue to look ahead to next school year, our staff is already thoughtfully preparing for this year’s Move Along Day. This continues to be a special tradition at Happy Hollow, centered on building excitement for the upcoming school year while supporting students socially and emotionally through the transition.
After hearing from caregivers during our fall community night, our School Advisory Council, and our Principal Advisory Committee, we will be moving forward this year with a slightly adjusted format. This year students will have the opportunity to create something that helps their next year’s teacher get to know them, ask questions, and spend time socializing as a grade level. In addition, next year's grade-level teams will come together to present and share all of the exciting experiences students can look forward to in the year ahead.
One important difference this year is that students will not be informed of their specific teacher or classmates during Move Along Day (class placement notification will occur early August). This shift allows us additional time over the summer to thoughtfully balance and finalize class placements, ensuring equitable class sizes and the best possible learning environments for all students. This is because over the summer we often welcome new students and families into our wonderful school community and this flexibility supports a more intentional placement process.
We understand that any change may bring questions. Please know that this adjustment is being thoughtfully considered across all elementary schools in our district. Elementary principals will reflect on both the process and outcomes, always with the shared goal of doing what is best for our students.
I want to assure you that I will continue to work closely with our educators to ensure that each child is placed in a classroom where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We will plan to discuss this, along with other topics, at an upcoming PTO coffee. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to connect or schedule a time to talk.
Warmly,
Nicolette Foundas
Principal, Happy Hollow Elementary School
