Dear Happy Hollow Families,
This week was a wonderful one, filled with both cherished traditions and exciting new milestones.
On Monday, we held a fun all-school assembly with a surprise for our teachers! About three months ago, I secretly asked every student in the school a grade level specific question about their favorite things at Happy Hollow. Our Technology Specialist, Beth Crozier, helped me create a "Family Feud" game, where teams of teachers competed to guess the students' most popular answers. Both students and staff had an incredible time! The excitement was so contagious that we are now working hard to earn our final 25 Golden Hawks by demonstrating our core values so we can finish our Family Feud game– Happy Hollow Edition!
We were also thrilled to celebrate the hard work and dedication of Amy Pohl (music teacher), writer and producer of the annual fifth-grade play, Meredith Hoag (art teacher), our talented set designer, and our fifth grade students and teachers. Their production was truly extraordinary and a joy to watch.
This week, we also welcomed our rising kindergarten students and families into the building. It was wonderful to introduce them to our classrooms, staff, and the welcoming community that makes Happy Hollow such a special place.
That same day, we participated in a brand new tradition of "clapping out" the graduating seniors from Wayland High School who once attended Happy Hollow. It was heartwarming to see their excitement as they walked through our halls and reflected on their elementary school memories. Even more special was watching many of them return to the playground afterward, eager to play four square and "shoot hoops" with our current fifth graders!
One particularly sweet moment this week took place during recess. As our town surveyor was here taking measurements in preparation for summer playground improvements, a group of students gathered around to learn what he was doing. He was absolutely wonderful with the children, taking the time to explain his work and answer their questions. What began as simple curiosity quickly turned into a real world math lesson, as students learned about measuring distances, collecting data, and solving practical problems.
Needless to say, alongside the meaningful learning that continues each day in our classrooms, we spent this week celebrating one another, and that is truly what makes our community so special.
As the school year draws to a close, we will continue preparing students for a successful transition to their next grade level while making the most of our remaining days together.
Please enjoy your weekend, and as always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Warmly,
Nicolette A. Foundas, Happy Hollow Principal
